As I mentioned yesterday the fabulous P came over to help me hang my new mirrored wardrobe doors. Thankfully he knows Ikea furniture well and instead of having take all the hinges off (like I was going to try and do) he just unclipped the old doors and swapped that little bit of the hinge over to the new doors…..genius! Unfortunately one of the doors was cracked across the middle but I called Ikea and a new one is on it’s way to me on Thursday.

I love how the doors look and it makes the room feel huge (the room is already huge I know but it feels like I’ve doubled the space…..which I kinda guess I have). Once the doors were in place it was time to get cracking on my next project……

I’ve been buying Gil Elvgren calendars for a few years now and I’ve never thrown them away because they are far too beautiful to just end up in the bin. I’d planned to use them to wallpaper the inside of my old wardrobe doors when I bought them from Ikea two years ago but thankfully I never got around to it, if I had they’d be out now! With one of the mirrored doors broken I couldn’t decorate the outside of them with the decals like I’d planned to this evening so I decided to start on the inside…..

……..plain grey and boring to begin with but with a bit of spray mount and the application of some of the different calendars and prints I’ve accumulated over the years and my vision started to become a reality……

…….I bought the Playboy poster from eBay and I also found these amazing catalogue pages on there too. They are fashion pages which ladies could browse to make their shopping choices for the coming season, they have small fabric swatches on them and the sizing and pricing guides. I’ve had them for years but I’ve never been too sure what to do with them, when I was getting all the bits together for this project it suddenly dawned on me that these would be perfect! I got the spray mount shaken and off I went…….

……I didn’t want the arrangement to be too precise so I decided to wing it and just start applying the different pictures as they came to hand. This is a great idea in theory but I should have started at the top and worked my way down rather than the other way around (it’s much easier to paste over someones boots/feet and have it look ok rather than have to paste over their head!)……

……I kept adding different pictures but I tended to pick the smaller ones because I was worried I’d run out of the bigger ones……..I have a feeling it’s going to end up being the other way around! I decided to work around the hinges and door handle which meant I ended up with some odd shaped gaps but I’d also found some Vargas Pin Up Girl playing cards on eBay a while ago and they turned out to be the perfect size to fill in the gaps……

About an hour later this is the finished result and I love it! So, one door down and seven more to go. It’s going to take me a while to get them all finished and they will all end up looking very different (many more fashion pages and bigger pictures on the next one!) but I’m so pleased with the finished product!

Here is one of the fashion pages in all it’s glorious detail……

A close up of a Vargas playing card (I have the Aces and Joker up on my wall here)…..

Finally a close up of one of the larger pictures…….

…….so what do you think? Do you decorate the insides of your wardrobe doors (I’ve always had something up on them….usually articles from fashion magazines on how to organise your wardrobe!) or do you think it’s a waste of time and gorgeous artwork to have it hidden away?
